Nigeria Policy, Monitoring Systems Analysis and Stakeholder Mapping Report

To evaluate the regulatory and policy landscape for food safety in Nigeria, EatSafe reviewed existing food safety policy documents and laws from the national to regional levels. EatSafe identified the institutional landscape and gaps in national food safety policy and its implementation strategy, then provides recommendations for strengthening implementation. EatSafe then analyzed the extent to which laws meet or fail to meet current needs and included recommendations to enable a more efficient food safety system in Nigeria for improved public health and enhanced trade in food commodities. Lastly, the report summarizes a stakeholder mapping exercise that characterized stakeholders into four categories based on their influence and interest in food safety.

This programme report was adapted into two peer-review publications, one in Advances in Nutrition and Food Science and the other in Journal of Law, Policy, and Globalization.

These publications built upon prior EatSafe work that reviewed investments in food safety in Nigeria using the available database of the Global Food Safety Partnership (GFSP), a public private initiative hosted by the World Bank.

This EatSafe programme report was also adapted into a GAIN policy brief.
