Feed the Future’s EatSafe: Evidence and Action Towards Safe, Nutritious Food (EatSafe) is a USAID-funded, five-year program aiming to enable lasting improvements in the safety of nutritious foods in traditional markets by focusing on the consumer. In Ethiopia, EatSafe operates in Hawassa, Ethiopia.
EatSafe takes a two-phase approach to meet its objectives and generate the expected results. First, EatSafe conducted primary research, both qualitative and quantitative in nature, to understand the local context around consumer and vendors' values, perceptions, and behaviors related to food safety. Learnings from this formative research phase, which were used to develop three market-based interventions, are presented in a report and infographic:
