Dr. Ann Trevenen-Jones leads GAIN’s Food Systems Governance programme and is the GAIN representative for the Transforming Urban and Rural Food Systems Consortium (TURFS) and for the UNFSS Coalition on Sustainable and Inclusive Urban Food Systems. Ann has been instrumental in shaping and future proofing the Food Systems Governance programme – with a particular focus on those most vulnerable to food insecurity and malnutrition in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia. This programme is committed to the empowerment of multiple stakeholders to facilitate nutrition mobilised communities’, leveraging of knowledge, skills and infrastructure, inclusive governance mechanisms and external networks for sustainable, resilient and just food systems transformation. Activities span global advocacy and influencing, gender, knowledge agendas and sub-national, local and city spheres across urban, rural and territorial food systems. Between 2022-24, Ann was GAIN’s Co-lead providing inputs to the now, adopted CODEX Guidelines for Hygiene Control Measures in Traditional Markets for Food; and was the Co-chair of the Expert Advisory Group and programmatic cities lead for GAIN’s Keeping Food Markets Working during COVID-19 local policy response initiative (2020-22).
