GAIN@COP30

GAIN returns to the UNFCCC Conference of Parties (COP) committed to maintaining momentum and building upon the strong foundations established over the last few years.

At COP27 in Egypt, the launch of the Initiative on Climate Action and Nutrition (I-CAN), co-chaired by the Government of Egypt and GAIN, established the essential connections between climate change and nutrition outcomes.

At COP28, the Emirates Declaration on Sustainable Agriculture, Resilient Food Systems, and Climate Action breathed new life into efforts towards food systems transformation. The Technical Cooperation Collaborative was established to support the implementation of the Declaration, with GAIN as one of its eleven founding members.

At COP29, was a ‘triple-COP’ year, with the biodiversity, desertification and climate COPs all taking place within just a couple of months – the so-called Rio Trio. It also coincided with the launch of the G20 Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty under the leadership of the Brazilian Government

Food systems sit at the heart of all these agendas. GAIN recognises that integration, coordination, and coherence are catalysts towards accelerated progress. In Belém, we will highlight the exciting potential of food systems interventions to create multiple co-benefits across climate, nature, health, and socioeconomic outcomes.
