Feed the Future’s EatSafe: Evidence and Action Towards Safe, Nutritious Food (EatSafe) is a USAID-funded, five-year program aiming to enable lasting improvements in the safety of nutritious foods in traditional markets by focusing on the consumer. In Nigeria, EatSafe operates in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, and Sokoto City.
EatSafe takes a two-phase approach to meet its objectives and generate the expected results. First, EatSafe conducted primary research, both qualitative and quantitative in nature, to understand the local context around consumer and vendors' values, perceptions, and behaviors related to food safety. Learnings from this formative research phase were used to develop four interventions, which are currently being tested.
