Taking stock of the implementation of policies and legal frameworks to transform food systems in Kenya: Progress, Challenges, and opportunities
The CASCADE project hosted a webinar on 30 October 2024 to evaluate the progress, challenges, and opportunities in implementing policies and legal frameworks to improve food systems in Kenya. The objectives included analysing Kenya's food and nutrition landscape, discussing nutrition-related policy implementation, highlighting women’s role in agri-food systems, and exploring ways to improve nutrition governance, financing, and policy best practices.
The speakers were:
- Madam Leila Odhiambo – Deputy Head, Division of Family Wellness and Nutrition, Ministry of Health
- Hon. Kizito Wangalwa - Director Committees and Programmes, Council of Governors
- Ruth Okowa - Country Director, GAIN Kenya
- Dorothy Owiyo – Gender Focal Person, CARE Kenya
- Dennis Olila - Economist from the National Treasury.
The webinar was moderated by Boniface Musembi who is the Communications Manager at GAIN Kenya.
The discussion highlighted best practices and recommendations to enhance Kenya’s food systems, with a particular focus on effective policy implementation, financing, and inclusivity in nutrition governance. Panellists emphasized the need for collaborative efforts between state and non-state actors to drive sustainable food systems and improve nutrition outcomes across the country.
